Ucluelet and Surrounding Area History
Our History
The Ucluelet and Area Historical Society was founded on July 21, 1988.
The original chartered members were Rose Davison, Carol Thompson, Jack Biggin-Pound, Margaret Thompson and Patricia Hutchinson.
The roots of the Society go further back. In the late 1970s there was concern about preserving local history. One of the key figures in planting the seeds for the society was Mary Kimoto, who is still on the UAHS Board of Directors today. Now aged 99, she is our matriarch and our inspiration.
Our Purpose
The Ucluelet and Area Historical Society exists to gather and preserve artefacts and archival information of educational, historical and cultural value associated with the area.
Our ongoing purpose is to establish and maintain an archives and a museum for the purpose of preserving, recording and exhibiting for public enjoyment the material we curate.
